What What we want the Speak Out 10 Learning Festival to do:
The Speak Out Learning Festival is an exciting, week-long festival celebrating disability pride and culture. You will meet experts in disability film, theatre, dance and leadership. It is our chance to show the world we are loud, proud of who we are!
We invite everyone to take part in workshops, a pride parade, cabaret and an art contest.

Pride Art Contest
We have a disability pride art contest. Works will be on display at City Hall during the week of the festival. Call 403.717.7632 to email your entry in by May 7th to Patricia Okahashi

Speak Out 10 Kick-Off, Wednesday, May 21
Plaza Theatre - 1133 Kensington Road NW
We being the festivities at the Plaza Theatre as part of Arusha’s Action film series; we celebrate the disability pride and culture movement on Wednesday May 21st. An evening of dance, conversation and a screening of ‘This Beggars Description’, followed by a lively talk 6:30 to 8:30 pm.

Pre-festival Workshops, May 22 - May 28
We also have week-long workshops on film making, theatre, leadership dance prior to the festival.

Pride parade & Party, Friday May 30th (Noon to 3 pm, beginning at Calgary’s City Hall 800 McLeod Trail SE)
We will start with a rally at City of Calgary Municipal building (next door to old City Hall) at noon. Guest speakers will join us as we welcome visitors from all over the world to the pride parade. Join us in colourful costumes, bring banners, noisemakers and find many ways to show our pride—the power inside!
Beginning at 12:30 we will head east on 9th Avenue SE for a 1 km walk, roll or drive to the Alexandra Centre (922, 9 Avenue SE). Refreshments, food and fun will greet us. There will be a resource fair, open microphone and a performance from the Rights and Learning Theatre Group from Red Deer. The party will end at 3 pm. (ASL)

Wine and cheese Mixer, Friday May 30th 6-10 pm, Big Secret Theatre at the Epcor 205 - 8 Avenue, SE
The fun continues into an evening of wine, cheese and networking with new people! We will have a panel discussion and a film screening. An evening not to be missed! Reserve your seat today by filling out our sign up form and let us know if you would like to attend!
Saturday talks 9 am – 4pm at the Epcor Centre
Starting as early as 9 am join Amici Dance and discover how we can build a strong disability pride and culture movement in Calgary. In the afternoon there will be six more workshops on safety & bullying, sexuality, people telling their story, poverty talks in our city and more dancing!
CABARET, 7- 10 pm Big Secret Theatre at the Epcor Centre, 205 - 8 Avenue SE
Join us in closing our festival with a BANG! How about a song, or a dance, or a big hearty laugh? This will be a night you won’t want to miss! Featuring… (drum roll please) comedy skits from our local and international friends, performances by MOMO Mixed Ability Dance, Amici Dance, and presentations from the weeklong film, theatre and dance workshops. Live music! Live people! BIG FUN!!
The Big Secret Theatre will turn into a dazzling nightclub filled with food, drink and non-stop entertainment from some of the best disabled artists in the world. This is the night the stars come out to shine–including you! If you would like to showcase your talents—in three minutes or less—let us know and we will try to fit you in!
